Ngorongoro Crater has area of 8,292 sq km and a Crater which is the largest unbroken caldera in the world with altitude of 2,286m surrounded by steep walls rising 610 m from the crater floor and covers area of 260 sq km.

Ngorongoro Crater has been declared as the 8th world heritage center and is nicknamed EDEN GARDEN OF AFRICA.

Ngorongoro has rich pastures and permanent water of the crater.

Ngorongoro Crater is oval shaped and it’s bounded by Lake Eyasi, Gol Mountains, Olbalal swamps & Olduvai Gorge.

There are vast numbers of animals – Zebra, Wildebeest, eland, gazelle, wart hog, buffalo etc which attracts predators – lion, cheetah, leopard, and hyena.

OLDUVAI GORGE
Olduvai Gorge is located between the eight world heritage site, Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti.

Remains of Homo habillis regarded as mankind’s first step to human evolution. Fossils have been described including prehistoric elephants, giant horned sheep and enormous ostriches. Recommended to visit on en route via Ngorongoro / Serengeti National Park.

EMPAKAI CRATER
Empakai is one of the most beautiful craters in Ngorongoro Crater. The large portion of its floor is covered with a lake. It is 3200m above sea level, the wall rises 300m above the crater floor and the crater is about 8 km in diameter. Because of high altitude, the area is often shrouded in mist and combined with the emerald colour of the lake; it creates an atmosphere straight out of a fairy tale. Is the unique place for walking to explore forested crater and magic of the variety of its wildlife and flora paradise.

OLMOTI CRATER
Olmoti crater is situated north of Ngorongoro crater, and lies at an altitude of 3,080 metres but the crater’s floor itself is relatively shallow and covered with tussocks of grass.

Olmoti is only possible by foot with the escort of an armed ranger. It takes about 35minutes to walk to the rim of this shallow crater.

Olmoti is worth a visit for its scenic beauty and sense of solitude. This part of highlands is an excellent area for walking safaris off beaten track, but is very seldom visited, and is completely upstaged by the Ngorongoro crater just a few km to the south.

Serengeti National Park: The world famous wildlife sanctuary with an altitude of 1,400 m and area of 14,763 Sq Km.

Serengeti means “endless plain” in the Masai language and refers to the flat grassy plain.

Serengeti is the oldest and most popular , a UNESCO world heritage site famed for its annual migration , when some 6 million hooves – not only Wildebeest but also Zebra & Gazelle as they march in search of fresh grazing.

MIGRATION IN SERENGETI

The exact timing of the Great Migration cannot be predicted, as it depends on each year’s rainy season and other variable factors.

Several hundred thousand wildebeest calves are born during this period each year, with the largest number born within a two to three week span in February; yet less than half will live to see their five-month birthday.

Predators (Lions, cheetah, hyenas, jackals and others) are plentiful in the area at this time of year take advantage of the abundance of slower calves, picking from the thousands of potential victims.

Kilombero valley is a unique and complex area, the site is amongst the largest seasonal wetland in East Africa, and this wetland is an important source of nutrients and sediment for the downstream area.

It observed that Kilombero valley has one endemic species of Crocodile called Crocodylus niloticus and endemic population of Colobus Monkey.

Also Kilombero valley contains a property population of Puku antelope which are only found in 18 locations in Africa and 3 endemic bird species namely weaverbird and 2 Cisticolla species.

During the wet seasons, it is an important spawning area for many kinds of fish in Rufiji River.

In Kilombero valley in short study it observed that there are 27 types of fish. More study is needed to confirm the observation.

Amani Forest Nature Reserve is one of the latest Nature Reserve established by the government to protect flora and fauna of East Usambara and is the 2nd largest botanical garden in the world.

Today the area continues to play a significant part in medical research hosting the Amani Medical Research Centre.

Peculiar in floristic diversity (3,450 vascular plant taxa). This peculiarity attracts Eco tourists to the area. Presence of African violet flower (11 species) in the wilderness of Amani Nature Reserve and availability of endemic and endangered plants add the tourism attractions of Amani Nature Reserve

More than 340 bird species has been recorded in East Usambara and most of these are found in Amani Nature Reserve. Many bird watchers visits Amani looking for the endemic and endangered birds including Usambara Eagle Owl (Bubo vosseleri), Usambara Weaver (Ploseus nicolli), Amani Sun bird (Anthreptes pallidigaster), Long billed tailor-bird (Orthotomus moreaui)

The Amani Nature Reserve being part of Eastern Arc Mountains has been recorded to have74 genera of animals including reptiles, mammals, amphibians, birds and molluscs.

Saadani is the 1st Tanzania coastal wildlife sanctuary located on the Indian Ocean 45 kms north of Bagamoyo.

Saadani is unique for its extraordinary diversity of scenery and wildlife. Beach, Bush and river have been thrown together in such a colorful clash of ecosystems; there is nothing to compare with it anywhere on the Eastern Coast of Africa.

Saadani contains indigenous species including Liechtenstein Hartebeest and the rare Roosevelt sable. Good populations of Elephant, Buffalo, hippo and crocodile, also Lion, Leopard, Hyena, Giraffe, Greater kudu, Red duckier and Reedbuck, Warthog, Waterbucks, Wildebeest & Zebra and also bird life is extensive.

Bottle nose dolphins are common off the southern coast of the park; whale’s passes through Zanzibar channel in October and November and green turtle breed at madete beach.

Udzungwa recently established conservation area of about 2,000 Sq Km in the South Central Tanzania and is boarded with Great Ruaha River and it’s 60kms from Mikumi national Park.

Udzungwa rises from 250m to 2,576 m at the peak and is well known for its biologically diverse forest with approximately 20 – 30% out of 200 animals and plant species that grow here not found anywhere in the world.

Udzungwa is really beautiful place for hikers.

The major attraction of Udzungwa is bio-diversity and unique rain forest, where most rare plants are not found anywhere else in the world, have been identified, from a tiny African violet to 30 meter high trees.

There are more than 400 bird species, 2500 plant species (25% of which are endemic and 6 primate species. It has the second largest biodiversity of a national park in Africa.

Udzungwa plateau supports Iringa Red Colubus Monkey, Sanje Crested Mangabey Monkey, Buffalo, Yellow monkey, Blue monkey, Velvet monkey, Red Duikers, Honey badgers, Squirrels, Mongoose, Sables and Blue Duiker’s as well rare species of birds.

Mikumi National Park is located north of the Selous Game Reserve covering an area of 3,230 Sq Km.

Mikumi is one of the most frequently visited National Parks.

It’s surrounded by open grasslands and mountain ranges.

Ruaha is best kept wildlife secrets covering area of 20,300 Sq Kms with altitude of 1,000 m.

Nyerere National Park (Selous Game Reserve) is the largest protected wildlife area in South of Tanzania and the biggest game reserve in Africa which covers a vast area of about 32,400 km², with an altitude of between 110 – 1250 m and covers 6% of Tanzania.

Nyerere National Park is designated park due to its unique ecological importance which has the finest unspoiled virgin bush and it is one of the list scientifically researched areas in Africa. 1,700 botanical species have been identified.

Nyerere National Park boost larger population of Elephants as well as large numbers of Buffalo, Hippo, Crocodile and endangered Wild dog.

Commonly seen are pride of Lion, Bush buck, Impala, Warthogs, Ostrich, Giraffe, Eland, Baboon, Zebra, Hyena, Kudu, rare sable antelope and Leopard.
